Firebox/Flue Remediation Project (2015)

Introduction

This project was executed in 2015 in response to the discovery of a break in a flue pipe within the chase of one of the buildings.  Subsequent video inspection of all flues revealed deficiencies in approximately half the flues throughout the property.  Due to the age of the fireboxes within the complex, which had been installed at the time the property was constructed in the 1970s, replacement flues approved for use with the existing fireboxes were no longer available, which meant that the fireboxes also had to be replaced.   Thus, during the course of this project, all fireboxes and flues were replaced throughout the complex, and flue chases were brought up to code.  The scope of the project included replacement of all wood-burning fireboxes and flues within the complex, plus those fireboxes with free standing gas inserts the could potentially be converted back to wood-burning fireplaces.  The project cost approximately $600,000, was carried out by S&S Construction (Carbondale).  Construction started in mid-August 2015 and was essentially complete by late Dec 2015.
